Executive Director, Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (CBEDC)

La’Shawn Allen-Muhammad is a not-for-profit leader and champion of investment in people, economic empowerment, and change. Ms. Muhammad has been responsible for a multitude of career pathway success stories through her work in the healthcare industry, leading to successful outcomes that earned high regard from Mayor Bloomberg’s Center for Economic Opportunity and the federal government.

Presently, Ms. Muhammad serves as Executive Director of Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (CBEDC), a 33-year-old not-for-profit organization in Brooklyn, NY. CBEDC operates a myriad of economic and workforce development programs, such as adult literacy, construction and manufacturing training, youth entrepreneurship, a business incubator, and home-ownership workshops. CBEDC is a founding member of the NY Equity and Environmental Justice Center, paving the way for access to the renewable energy sector.

Ms. Muhammad serves as an Executive Board Member of Howard University and Executive MBA Program and Board Member of Black Alliance of Colleges and Employers (BACE).

Ms. Muhammad’s most important job is as a wife and mother. She is married to Student Minister Henry Muhammad and serves as Mom-in-Chief to four children ages 10-16.
