Executive Director, 826 Valencia

Bita serves as the Executive Director of 826 Valencia in San Francisco, an organization focused on helping students from low-income communities improve their writing skills through impactful tutoring and publishing programs. Since becoming 826 Valencia’s Executive Director, Bita has significantly enhanced the organization’s programs and evaluation systems, tripled its reach across the city, and earned awards from organizations such as the Superbowl, Warriors, National Council of Teachers of English, Google, and SF Ed Fund. Prior to that, Bita served as a teacher and school site leader for 18 years in the San Francisco Unified School District.

She earned her BA in English and her MA in Education from UC Berkeley, where she later facilitated equity-centered classes for new school administrators for several years. She now chairs the Board of the New School San Francisco and is the co-founder of the San Francisco Literacy Coalition.

Bita’s commitment to education stems from her own experience growing up as a low-income, immigrant, and first generation college student in Los Angeles.
