2019 ‘Meet the Funders’ Classes
Every year, as part of our curriculum on fundraising and philanthropy, we provide students with the opportunity to meet with some of the region’s most prominent funders. Our goal is not only to strengthen students’ fundraising skills, confidence, and networks, but also to provide time and space to foster authentic connection and relationship building between funders and nonprofit leaders and ultimately dismantle the power dynamic typically present in funder/nonprofit relationships.
We ended each session by signing the Unicorn Manifesto, taken from Vu Le, Jessamyn Shams-Lau, and Jane Leu’s book Unicorns Unite: How Nonprofits and Foundations Can Build Epic Partnerships, which reads, “We dream of EPIC partnerships between nonprofits and foundations that tackle complex problems and achieve incredible feats of social change that enable the world to thrive. We equally value all inputs, prioritize needs of those we serve, increase trust and empathy, and commit to big, bold, and better through all-in teamwork.”
