Joy Murrieta, Founder, Main IDEA

Seven years ago, a group of artists friends and I who were living and working in ‘Main South’ Worcester noticed that there was a lack of accessibility to arts programs for the youth in our neighborhood, and we decided to pool our resources to meet that need. What started off as a volunteer project evolved into an annual tradition and eventually into an official nonprofit in 2015.

Attending the Institute has helped facilitate a much needed transition in our organization. With the help of my mentor, Practice Seminar, and information provided in class, we were able to successfully build a stronger Board of Directors and Volunteer Committee, hire and employ me, and help me write and start implementing a business plan.

We have recently partnered with another youth and arts organization called Creative Hub Inc. to start offering more programming this summer and fall! We are excited for what the future holds for both of us as we go forward! Learn more here.
