INP Statement on U.S. Border Separation Policy

Yolanda Coentro, President and CEO

Dear INP Community,

As an organization, we believe that civic engagement, public discourse, and constructive debate are at the heart of a healthy democracy, and we are accepting of diverse opinions.

But we hold a firm line on values. Our values of social justice, integrity, generosity, and love are not up for debate. That is why we believe it is necessary for us to speak up and use what platform we do have to respond to present events.

The Institute for Nonprofit Practice vehemently denounces the policy of separating children from their families on the U.S. border. This practice is cruel, immoral, and inhumane.

As a daughter of immigrants and a mother of two sons, I refuse to accept that this is who we are as a nation. I am heart broken, and I can’t imagine the pain and trauma that the families affected by this are enduring.

At the Institute, we believe in the power of nonprofits to change the world. Our sector has jumped into action to respond to this crisis and needs our help. Here is list of some of the organizations that could use your support right now. In addition, I urge you to call your senators to ask that they support the Keep Families Together Act.

This policy aims to divide us, but we are stronger together. Know that we are with you, we are lifting our voices in resistance, and we will not sit by and accept this as the norm.

Yours in Solidarity,

Yolanda
